Kieran Crowley is a New York Post journalist credited with decoding the coded messages sent by Heriberto Seda, the so-called New York Zodiac. According to the article, the messages used codes based on international maritime signal flags, and Crowley decoded them with help from his father-in-law, a World War II veteran of cryptography and signals intelligence. Crowley later authored a book on the case, Sleep My Little Dead: The True Story of the Zodiac Killer (2003).
