Zodiac (1986) by Robert Graysmith is described as the original and most influential amateur book on the Zodiac Killer case, remaining a touchstone for later researchers. In it, Graysmith referred to suspect Arthur Leigh Allen as “Robert Hall Starr” to avoid litigation. He named Allen directly in his 2002 follow-up, Zodiac Unmasked.
